Just Dressage It!

Ok So im 17 years old, been riding for 7 years (almost 8) I do dressage and MIGHT jump once every couple of months if I get the courage lol!

My horse:

Name: Peter Du Fort:
Age: 6 (2003)
Height: 16.2hh
Colour: Bay
Disapline: Dressage
Breed: Selle Francais
Likes: Anything Edible, Hacking, Playing etc
Dislikes: Working haha hes sooo lazy, any horse remotely interested in his food haha.

I've been riding him for a year now, but only really owned him since January. He was a riding school horse and couldnt even canter when I started riding him, they hardly used him. In a year he managed to get outpointed in Prelim dressage, do quite well in Novice and possibly do Elementary FEI test this year!

His first competition (only about 1 or 2 months of riding him) he came 3rd!!!

Dressage

Ok so ye, its the first dressage competition of the season…which I CANT do because is lame :(

Im Scribing for the judge instead though, hopefully I can write fast enough :S

This is why I love him! He makes me laugh sooo much!

I Love My Horse

end of story :)

Happy :) Unsure :/ Hopefull (Y)

Ok so my horse has kissing spines and his hips were out of alianment, he is no longer in pain and his hips are almost where they should be! Hes finally building muscle and starting to look like an actual horse.

Anyway he was finally allowed to canter again the other day after 4 weeks of walk and trot work, since then I have been doing lateral work etc with him to try and prepare him for the FEI Elementary Dressage Competition coming up soon in which I have about 5 weeks to prepare for, so I’ve been been doing counter-canter, leg yeild, shoulder-in, walk to canter, canter to walk, counter-canter to walk, rein backs, medium trots and canter, extended walk. (Well attempting at least lol)

Ok hes not brilliant but everytime I ride him he seems to be improving every day! He actually feels like a dressage horse now, so Im very happy.

But for my poor boy, this week has been pretty hard on him! This is as much work as hes down since April (6 months ago!) due to his kissing spines (pretty muched lunged everyday to build the back muscle) and 5 weeks off at summer, so both of us are ‘getting back into the swing of things’ because I basically hadn’t really ridden since April either, until I moved to a different stable 5 weeks ago.

I rode him today and could tell he was tired, not so much physically, but mentally, hes been working really hard and im very happy with him!

Tomorrow I have a lesson on him, Wednesday I will ride him but just exercising instead of training so he can have a bit of a ‘break,’ and then on Thursday he will have a well deserved day off :)

Im not sure if I will do the FEI Elementary on him, I dont think he is quite ready and I don’t want to push him, ok I have 4 weeks to see whether I think we can do it, but im not sure, because not only is some of the movements a problem with Peter (he struggles at walk to canter and leg yeild), But sitting to his trot and keeping him going forward is difficult and his trots not the easiest to sit to, especially his medium! So we will have to see :S

My first dressage competition of the season is on the 9th November and I will do the Novice test with him (he has never competed elementary which is another reason why im unsure about the FEI, but my mums tryna push me to do it, but shes not understanding the reasons why I don’t know if I want to do it no matter how many times I explain!!!)

The first 3 competitions of the season will be ‘practice’ FEI Tests, I have to do at least 1 of the ‘practice’ tests if I want to compete in the FEI. So I might do the very last ‘practice’ test on the 30th November. (FEI is on the 12th-13th December).

Anyway this was only going to be a short post haha, guess I rambled on a bit!

*cookie for who ever reads this* :D

Riding My Horse

Haha ok so rode my horse today, he was pretty good apart from when a horse on the outside of the arena decided to mess around, he shoved his head up in the air, I could feel his back legs under him read to explode! I managed to ‘get hold’ of him in time haha

Oh and when I groom him I put all the grooming brushes on his stable wall and EVERYTIME without fail he purposely pushes them off haha. I love him though!!!
